Things you all loved in August

Last week was our first week of school and we were all wiped out by the weekend. Don't you think the school year should always start midweek? It was a lot to jump straight into a full five days of school!

One thing I've learned is to not make any plans the first weekend after school starts, and I'm so glad I protected that time because we all needed a couple of quiet days at home.

Are your kids back in school yet?

What I'm organizing

Well, when it came time to renovate our basement we just moved all of the basement clutter out to the garage...where it's been sitting untouched all summer.🤦🏼‍♀️

So I'm on a mission to declutter our garage in September because I will be very cranky if I have to scrape ice/snow off my car come winter. I started listing some things on Facebook Marketplace over the weekend and I'm reminded how much you can get rid of that way!

What's making my life easier

If you're already annoyed with having to pack lunches all the time, this is the book you need! It has tons of different lunch ideas to get you out of a rut, and I love it because my kids can flip through the full-color photos and bookmark things they're interested in. Simple recipes and assembly meal ideas along with practical tips for how to pack, store and freeze each one to make lunches easier on yourself.

The Best Stuff

These are the things you loved the most this month!

  • Car Headrest Hooks: Please grab a pack of these for your car! My kids use these for their jackets and backpacks. Keeps things off the floor (especially useful when it gets wet and snowy), and they're able to reach their bags while buckled up.
  • Skylight Calendar: The best way to keep your family organized, especially as schedules get busier this fall! We use it for a shared calendar, chore charts, grocery list, and meal planner all in one.
  • Vacuum Seal Bags: Great for storing away seasonal clothing, baby/kid clothes, or I'm using them to keep old dance costumes I don't want to party with. This starter pack comes with a mini pump and a few sizes of bags.
  • Vacuum Mop: Seriously the best way to clean your hard floors, you can sweep and mop all at once! And easy enough my kids can do it as well.
  • Stackable Drawers: Stackable drawers are the best way to make use of the space under your kitchen and bathroom sinks! I'm a big fan of these that I added under the kitchen sink last year.
  • Espresso Machine: I use this every day, and it's fun to hear from those of you who have added it to your kitchens, too. There are very fancy (aka expensive) espresso machines out there, but this is a really nice starter one to test out and see if you like it. Maybe I'll upgrade someday, but it really does the job for me and I like how small it is.

The Fun Stuff

What I'm doing instead of scrolling or folding laundry

  • Just For The Cameras: I really enjoyed this audiobook! A fun fake dating trope with a zookeeper and a professional football player. By one of my favorite authors.
  • Dream Harbor Series: This small town romance series is a favorite of mine, and I just finished reading through the last book! Each book tells the story of a different character in their quirky small town, and I really love a series where the side characters in one book become the main characters in the next book.
  • Super Meow: We gave this game to Logan for his 5th birthday and it is really fun! It's a beginner deck building game. The first person to get a cape and a cat in their hand is crowed "Super Meow". It's so silly!
  • Eye Found It Board Game: Logan also got this game for his birthday and wow I'm enjoying it just as much as the kids! Everyone works as a team to search for hidden pictures on the huge game board. Goal is to get to the magical gem before the ogre steals it. A good one for kids of different ages to play together.
  • Wildflower Lego Bouquet: I spent a couple of evenings working on this Lego set and it was really fun. I love how it looks displayed in a vase on the table, too!
  • Magnolia Journal Magazine: I don't know about you, but I used to love getting magazines in the mail. Most of them are jam packed with ads and little substance these days, but one that I do think is worthwhile is the Magnolia Journal. The publish four issues a year, all themed around the seasons. I really enjoy this one! You can get standalone issues on Amazon, but it's a better deal to subscribe for a year (did you know you can also get magazine subscriptions through amazon?).

If you're new here, I love it when you reply to these emails! It's always nice to know people are actually reading these. And yes, I really will reply back to you!

I have no interest in completely redecorating my house for every season, but I do love to embrace the seasons by making some little swaps to get our house ready for the season we're heading into. For me, a lot of this is how the house feels, not just how it looks. I think a lot about all five senses when it comes to seasonal decorating. Here are 5 things I’m doing this year to get our home ready for fall: 1. Give the front porch a little refresh It really doesn’t take much to make the front...

There are so many things that seem to come along with “back to school” these days. New wardrobes. New backpacks. Elaborate first-day photos. Meal prep. Lunch packing. Special breakfasts. A perfectly organized homework station. A whole new morning routine. And if those things make your life easier or you truly enjoy doing them, go for it! But I also think sometimes we need a reminder that just because something is popular on the internet doesn't mean it's something we actually need to do....

It's completely wild to me that we're in August already, but here we are! Welcome back to The Good Stuff, a monthly roundup of the things we loved most this month. After a very busy July, I am looking forward to having a little more time this month to make a dent in the massive amount of stuff we have piled in our garage. When construction was starting on our basement renovation, we hauled everything up the stairs and out to the garage to deal with later. Well, "later" is here and it's time...
