☀️Summer’s here - let’s get organized! (made you a checklist)

It’s always wild how fast the end of the school year goes, isn’t it? No matter what our work and childcare situations look like this season, the start of summer brings change, and that transition can be stressful for a lot of our families.

I have a freebie for you today to support you in this busy season and help you start summer on the right foot. The Simplified Summer Prep guide is broken down into quick, doable tasks to help you tackle everything from snack stations and summer schedules to sorting school papers, organizing toys, brainstorming boredom-busting activities and more. Click here to access the guide!

Work through this guide at your own pace, whether that’s knocking it all out the first few days of summer break or taking it one task at a time over the next couple of weeks.

Let’s wrap up the school year well, simplify routines and prep our homes for a fun and organized summer!

On My Mind This Week

  • Our last day of school is this Friday, and I have been thinking about how we haven't established an end-of-school year tradition yet. Our youngest will start school this fall so I'd love to be thinking about fun traditions to mark the beginning and end of the school year now that both kids will be in school. Does your family do anything fun?
  • One of the best things about my three-day weekend was doing an entire 500-piece puzzle in one evening while I blew through about 3 hours of my audiobook (Emma M. Lion book 5). I'm really into this brand of puzzles right now - they are a small business making puzzles with beautiful artwork, fun and interesting shaped pieces, and fantastic quality. Use my code Emily15 for a discount, and be sure to check out their darling 4th of July mini puzzle.
  • I finally found us THE perfect snackle boxes! I don't like those cheapie ones you always see people using for a few reasons, and these check all the boxes for me - dishwasher safe, little lids for every compartment, and a slim ice pack that fits inside. Genius! Here's the standard 8-compartment one, and I also like this smaller size.
  • Did you know Amazon Music subscribers get to listen to a free audiobook every month? This is a newish perk and I need to make sure you know about it because it's been amazing for me. I used to have an Audible subscription but it's kinda pricey and I don't relisten to books so it didn't matter to me that I own my downloads forever. I switched to Amazon Music which means we now have ad-free music connected to our Alexa and other devices, PLUS I get to choose one title from the massive Audible library every month. You don't own the book, you're just borrowing it, but you can choose from anything including all the new releases. I download as many audiobooks as I can through my library, but this has been an awesome way to listen to the popular new books without waiting for months for a library hold. Click this link to see if you can get a free Amazon Music trial.
  • I bought these sandals last summer and they quickly became a staple of my summer wardrobe. Nice enough to wear to the office, cute enough for date night, yet casual enough to wear around town. I've already been wearing them a lot this summer!
  • With kids running around outside all summer, I'd highly recommend having this stain spray at the ready - works on all the kid messes.

What's For Dinner This Week

*We pull fresh fruit & veggies out of the fridge to serve along with dinner most of the time. I also rely a lot on frozen steamer bags of vegetables.

There are so many things that seem to come along with “back to school” these days. New wardrobes. New backpacks. Elaborate first-day photos. Meal prep. Lunch packing. Special breakfasts. A perfectly organized homework station. A whole new morning routine. And if those things make your life easier or you truly enjoy doing them, go for it! But I also think sometimes we need a reminder that just because something is popular on the internet doesn't mean it's something we actually need to do....

It's completely wild to me that we're in August already, but here we are! Welcome back to The Good Stuff, a monthly roundup of the things we loved most this month. After a very busy July, I am looking forward to having a little more time this month to make a dent in the massive amount of stuff we have piled in our garage. When construction was starting on our basement renovation, we hauled everything up the stairs and out to the garage to deal with later. Well, "later" is here and it's time...

Happy Friday! I'm a big podcast listener, and one of my favorites is The Lazy Genius. She recently shared a list of what's working and not working for her family this season, and it inspired me to do the same. It's such a simple way to check in on your routines and notice what's making life easier, annnnd what's not. I'd love to hear something from your own list, too! What's working for us this summer Meal planning based on our energy. We don't plan ambitious meals on our busiest days. If we...
