The Good Stuff: what you loved most in July

It's completely wild to me that we're in August already, but here we are! Welcome back to The Good Stuff, a monthly roundup of the things we loved most this month.

After a very busy July, I am looking forward to having a little more time this month to make a dent in the massive amount of stuff we have piled in our garage. When construction was starting on our basement renovation, we hauled everything up the stairs and out to the garage to deal with later. Well, "later" is here and it's time for me to get into purging mode.

Not looking forward to the decluttering, but I'm so happy our basement is usable now and I'll be even happier if I can park in the garage before it snows.🤞🏼 Do you have any home projects in mind for this month?

What I'm organizing

We organized our board games and it makes me so happy to finally have space to display our collection.

I hunted and hunted for bookcases that are extra deep to accommodate the bigger boxes without them hanging off the front, and am really happy with these!

Also cool: they are designed to connect together so you can get more of a built-in look (there are even other styles with doors so you can mix in cabinets!).

What's making my life easier

Always having a pool bag packed and ready to grab! When we get home, I go ahead and repack it and the towels go straight back to the bag after they are washed.

This our second summer with this tote bag and it's perfect. I added a few accessories for my phone, keys, sunglasses, etc. as well.

The Best Stuff

These are the things you loved the most this month!

  • Piles: I'm excited so many of you grabbed this fun card game after I shared it last month! It's a free-for-all, everyone races at the same time to sort their laundry into sets. I had my mom, sisters, and elementary aged nieces and nephews all into it.
  • Ninja Crispi: I was super resistant to getting an air fryer because I despise having a bunch of bulky appliances sitting on my counters. I researched a ton at Christmas and chose this one and it's been amazing! It's nice and small, glass containers have lids so you can prep food or store leftovers in them, and the glass washes well in dishwasher.
  • Plant Food: So happy many of you picked up this plant fertilizer after I shared last week! I've noticed healthier growth, happier leaves, and it's become a non-negotiable part of my plant care routine. Just add a drop to your watering can and your plants will be so happy! You can use code EMILY10 to save 10% on your.
  • Stackable Drawers: Stackable drawers are the best way to make use of the space under your kitchen and bathroom sinks! I'm a big fan of these that I added under the kitchen sink last year.
  • Dishwasher Cleaner & Deodorizer: Add a table to your dishwasher and run a cleaning cycle to keep your dishwasher clean! It removed limescale and calcium buildup, cuts down on odors, and is such a simple monthly maintenance task.
  • Toilet Cleaning Wand: I love seeing such a practical product make this list, because I'm all about things that make mundane tasks like cleaning the toilet easier. We have one of these in every bathroom, and they're very easy for the kids to use, too!
  • Espresso Machine: I use this every day, and it's fun to hear from those of you who have added it to your kitchens, too. There are very fancy (aka expensive) espresso machines out there, but this is a really nice starter one to test out and see if you like it. Maybe I'll upgrade someday, but it really does the job for me and I like how small it is.

The Fun Stuff

What I'm doing instead of scrolling or folding laundry

  • Nora Goes Off Script: A romance screenwriter finds a love story of her own. This was a really fun story - the perfect beach read!
  • Daisy Chain Flower Shop: This small town romance series is a favorite of mine, and I thoroughly enjoyed the latest book in the series. Each book tells the story of a different character in their quirky small town, and I really love a series where the side characters in one book become the main characters in the next book.
  • Splendor: Collect gems and race to get the most prestige points. This is pretty quick to play and requires minimal setup so it's one I tend to suggest a lot when we're already tired but want to play something for a few minutes before bed.
  • Taco vs Burrito: This card game is so silly! Easy enough our 4 year old can play and we always have fun with it.
  • Rush Hour: This is a one-player logic game where you try to slide the vehicles until the red car can exit the traffic jam. I'll often play it alongside my kids and we'll solve the puzzles together, which is fun!
  • Murdoku: This is like Sudoko meets Clue, and I'm here for it. It's been really nice to leave this puzzle book next to the couch to work on when I have a few minutes here and there. I've never been into Sudoku (numbers are not my thing), but these puzzles are so fun to do!

If you're new here, I love it when you reply to these emails! It's always nice to know people are actually reading these. And yes, I really will reply back to you!

There are so many things that seem to come along with “back to school” these days. New wardrobes. New backpacks. Elaborate first-day photos. Meal prep. Lunch packing. Special breakfasts. A perfectly organized homework station. A whole new morning routine. And if those things make your life easier or you truly enjoy doing them, go for it! But I also think sometimes we need a reminder that just because something is popular on the internet doesn't mean it's something we actually need to do....

Happy Friday! I'm a big podcast listener, and one of my favorites is The Lazy Genius. She recently shared a list of what's working and not working for her family this season, and it inspired me to do the same. It's such a simple way to check in on your routines and notice what's making life easier, annnnd what's not. I'd love to hear something from your own list, too!
